The Whole Family!!!

He's Baaaaaack!

Ah, life is good. Mike's plane touched down safely on Friday night and our friend, Deane, went to fetch him from the airport for me! We had a busy Saturday getting a Family Portrait taken in the morning, shopping in the afternoon and a Halloween Party in the evening to attend.

All was going well until I went to try on my Halloween costume. No, no...it fit just fine, it's just that after about 60 seconds of wearing it, I started to feel very itchy. Then the sneezing and coughing and hives started! I was having an allergic reaction to the costume and it was coming on fast!
Mike came downstairs at that point, saw what was happening and helped me strip out of it asap! My neck was beet red, hives were starting to form on my neck and face, my throat started to swell and I lost my voice. Yes, it was bad. I was really starting to get scared when I started having difficulty breathing. Mike grabbed the Benadryl and I drank it down quickly-it started to work right away. Needless to say, we didn't go to the party *bummer* and although the itching and hives and sneezing went away, I was still having a rough time breathing and talking hours later. It was a rough night but we got through it. Now it's Monday and the breathing is getting much easier (I found my emergency inhaler which really helped!). We still have no idea what caused the problem other than a suspected case of lingering pet hair/dander (which I am allergic to) from another party years ago. I guess it's time to talk to the Doctor about my options-I can't have that happening too many more times before the Benadryl just isn't fast enough...

On a positive note, we celebrated my parents 30th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday with a nice brunch with the whole family. With Mike home, everyone was there and it made for a great start to our day. We then went Geocaching around town for a few hours and had dinner with our friend Khan and his family. It was a great day! Thanks to everyone who was a part of it!

Good News, Ya'll!

I finally got the news that I have been waiting to hear all week! Mike is coming home for GOOD! He just found out tonight that this will be the last of his journeys out to California and when he flies in late Friday night, he won't be flying back out again! Hallelujah!

Oh, what a relief! He is still slated to continue working on the project but from Grand Rapids instead. Eventually, he will transition off and into a new role and project, probably around the beginning of the year. He has done a tremendous job in Burbank and is proud of all the progress they were able to make. He has made some lasting friendships and is looking forward to continuing them once he's back home in GR...

I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it...I'm about to lose control and I think I like it! Oh yeah!

On a side note: I went to my first "Teacher Conference" tonight! Now that's scary! They're only 3, right? I am pleased to report that both girls are doing great, know all their colors, shapes, letters and can count to 13 reliably. What more can I ask for? :)

Quotes of the Day

Lunch with Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa at Perkins today, the girls both order "Rainbow Pancakes"...

Waitress: "How does everything look?"
Tara: "Not good. Mine doesn't have enough sprinkles!"

It's raining on the way home...

Lauren: "Mom, why is it raining now?"
Me: "Well, the sky must have been full."
Lauren: "But didn't the sky know that I wanted to play?!"

We get home...

Tara: "My tummy hurts..."
Me: "Why do you think it's feeling bad?"
Tara: "Because it wants a cookie!"

TGIF?

I haven't had much of a chance to actually sit down and write lately and I'm feeling the urge right now. I just had a very nice lunch with a high school friend of mine who I haven't seen since our college days. She also has a 3 yr old daughter (plus 2 older boys) and it was fun letting the girls all play together while we caught up on each others lives. She works with patients who are in rehabilitation and has worked with several GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) sufferers, which was quite interesting to me. She mentioned that many are there for months, relearning how to use their bodies again. I feel so blessed that I was able to recover so quickly, and without a lot of lasting effects.

And ya know, it's Friday. Which used to mean something good, but for me these days, it just means another day down and X more to go until Mike comes home. I sometimes feel stuck in that rut of waiting for the better days, when we're all together as a family again, like we're supposed to be. Oh, I try to be strong and all and put on a happy face for the kids, but seriously...I'm tired. I don't want to do this anymore. I want my old life back. Am I being selfish? Yes, of course I am. I want the very best for my kids, I want a nice home to raise them in, but what I really NEED is some stability.

This year has been crazy and until things are put right again, I guess that I'm just gonna "keep on keeping on", and as those popular words of wisdom say, "We are not given more than we can handle." But can I ask for just a little break from the "more" for the time being? Probably not, huh.... :)

Oh yeah, I KNOW you're jealous right now!

That's Samuel, L. Jackson if you're nasty!

Crazy Daze

That's what my life feels like right now...crazy. I thought it was Wednesday today for most of the morning until the girls asked me where their Show'n'Tell bags were for school today! Doh!

We had such a great time vacationing last week with Mike home from California. We quickly settled into our "family" routine and trip mode. I'm in charge of packing all the clothes and snacks and Mike handles all the electronic and car needs. This is a process that we have used since we first got together and it goes so smoothly. We also have the uncanny ability to pack tight and light, which equates to (1) suitcase for Mike and I, (1) carry-on size case for all the girls clothing, (1) water bag with all of our swimming gear and (1) overnight carry-on size case that we use for the Hotel night only <----this was one of those tips that I read about somewhere a long time ago and took to heart! Super great idea! We pre-pack our Hotel suitcase with one change of clothing for each of us, our pj's and toiletries. This way, we only have 1 item to take with us into the Hotel after a long day of driving! It works, trust me!

We had beautiful weather, traveled through/to Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Delaware, and did lots of Geocaching along the way. We were very sad to see it end and taking Mike back to the airport on Monday was the toughest departure yet.

This week has been insanely busy for me, which is good since it keeps my mind off other worrisome things. I hope to post some pictures from our trip in the next day or two. Stay tuned!
